NEW YORK TIMES: “In Bilbao, it’s not just the museum”

Bilbao is the centre of tourism in the Basque Country. St. Sebastian is the city with more Michelin stars per capital than any other city in the world, but in a couple of years Bilbao will become better than St. Sebastian in cooking.

RESTAURANT GUGGENHEIM:
Frank Gehry is the architect of the Guggenheim museum, and now the Chef Mr. Martinez is the cook of the museum. “El Bulli” and “Mugaritz” are the avant-garde restaurant in Spain, but new restaurants follow them.
Chef Josean Martinez Alija inove the cooking with easy forms and new tastes. The restaurant decoration is minimalist like the cooking, and plays with the colours-splotched.
Chef Martinez inove with the food, the costumers eat more than a one course. The menu is made up of ten dishes.
In this restaurant he focuses almost entirely on vegetable because Mr. Martinez con play with them and this helps him to be more creative.
There is a new restaurant in Bilbao a magical restaurant in the Guggenheim’s museum.

WHAT HAPPENS WITH THE CULTURE?

I have chosen this topic because I have been thinking about it for a long time.

My father is an intellectual and he told me about this type of problems.

For this reason I’m going to tell you my point of view about what happens to the culture.

BEFORE WHAT HAPPENED?

Centuries ago people felt the culture around them. They loved the culture.

They went to the libraries, also studies, read, wrote in their houses, and went to the theatre to listen to classic music. Sometimes they read and wrote poetry, they were artists.

For this reasons the society was smarter, remember the famous gentlemen and the people walking in the famous parks.

On other hand there were the dresses, hats, skirts and beautiful clothes that show us their intellect.

I admire the people of the centuries ago, most of all the society at the end of the 19^th century and the beginning of the 20^th century.

People like Frank Lloyd Wright, who was an architect from USA, build the famous “Falling Water”. His houses were very useful and smart because he used wood and light, AMAZING!!!!!!!!!

NOWADAYS WHAT HAPPEN? and WHY?

Nowadays the feeling of the people with the culture is very strange, because I think that there are a lot of people who flee from culture. There are people who hate reading, writing and listening to classical music.

You are a freak if you do these things and also if you play an instrument, listen to classical music or read poetry and novels only for pleasure.

What happen with this? My hypothesis is that nowadays people don’t have willpower for anything, and we can see it every day in the jobs.

For this reason I think that I can triumph in life, I have the willpower.

And also the worst thing at the moment is that people don’t mind falling into the mediocre.

If before there was Frank Lloyd Wright, actually there are Lord Norman Foster and the best Santiago Calatrava, on other hand there is Zaha Hadid, she is recent but her stye is futurist.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF THE PEOPLE DON’T REACT?

If the people don’t change their mind a lot of bad things will happen.

The society will fall into decline, because there will were problems with people that don’t have intellectual hobbies.

There are people who never do these things and only smoke and drink alcohol.

The inculture causes violence, remember the skinheads, marrocan people, killos, etc.

If people don’t study there will be people who will control all the industries and this will be a problem.

CONCLUTION

We need to love the culture, please try to study arts, like the people of centuries ago.

NEEW 9 - “Torre dels Vents”

WIND TOWER (Catalonia Today / Thusday, April 26 – 2007)

In Trragona, Antoni Mas is the artist and specifically this work “Torre dels Vents” is situated in one of Tarragone’s prominent locations in Rambla Nova and Plaça de les Corts Catalanes.

At night there are 48 projectors to light.

It’s a big sculpture, but at the end of the “Torre dels Vents”. This sculpture was built in 1889 dedicated to Josep-Pau Virgili i Santromà, the name is “Aci Virgili”.

And also in 1954 a big fountain was built for the centery with 250 figures representing typical “castells”. Finally there is a sculpture of “Lluis Companys” from 2005.

Well, It’s really an artistic square.

NEXT YEAR

The best thing to do to learn in my opinion is to read a book, because I can learn to structure the sentences and learn new words and expressions. Another opinion is to listen, read and write news.

But by the middle of the third term we should be able to speak a lot, because when I have the grammar the following step is to use it.

Each one needs to talk because the biggest problem is the shyness. If we talk a lot more calmly we can learn more and travel around the world freely.

Barcelona puts on cultural weight

Libraries against the clock:

The piece of news talks about the new library in Barcelona, it’s name will be Can Saladrigues in Poblenou.

This library will substitute an old factor, with 1200 square meters of reading space on the street “Carrer Ramón Llull”.

Also another library will be re-opened this ye¡ar, thanks to the “La Fraternitat of Barcelona”.

In Nou Barris from Sagrera two new libraries will be opened in 2009.

This plane for libraries was passed in 1995 and it foresees by 2010 some 39 libraries, with the Can Soladrigues it was be 33.

And also in the progect there is the Biblioteca Provincial from Ciutadella.

In the new library “Mercat del Born” there was discovered the roman ruins in 2001 and the building was stopped, now the project has started again.
