Oral presentation of JAMAICA

The differences of Jamaica:

The news, the programs of the TV, the politics, the offices of tourism always say that Jamaica is a beautiful and perfect continent. They say that Jamaica is rich and the habitants lie good. But it isn’t really.
Yes, a lot of parts of Jamaica are poor, the people live in the streets because they are poor or the hurricanes has destroyed they houses and they families, very children haven’t parents and they live in solitary.
This people live in poor areas of Jamaica and they haven’t food and in the end they died to cause of an ill.

Because, they haven’t resources economic for live good and they can’t buy medicines.

Climate:

Jamaica is an Island of the equator, in the Caribbean Sea and the next to Cuba and dominical Republic.
The medium temperature is of 27ºC, so it is a hot country like all countries of the equator. No rain habitually but, the little rains are very stringers and it causing inundations.
Also exist the problem of the hurricanes and tornados that it is usually at in the end of summer.
Animals and flowers:
The island is rich in flowers, it has 3.000 different species of flowers and only 800 live on the island.
And also on the island there are different exotic animal like Papadakos, cuckoos and colibris.


Estates, areas, and habitants:

Jamaica is separated into 13 regions. It is surface is 10.991km2
With 1.222m of beaches, also the island has an important relief with the blue mountain which is 2.256m high.
On this island there are 2.343.700 habitants, and the capital is Kingston.

History:

Colom was the discoverer in 1494, the Spanish people went to live here and killed the native people, and in 1655 Jamaica was conquered by England and this set a Britain colony but, in 1949 the Island get a self government and finally Jamaica to become independent in the commonwealth in 1962.
The long year that the England was in the island is the reason of because the official language the Jamaica is English.

Religion:

In Jamaica exist two cultures the protestant and the Rastafarian that is the native culture.
In Jamaica the habitants are in a 45% the protestant and a 55% are the culture Rastafarian. The Rastafarian born in Jamaica in 1930 in the native people and the working class. This culture is against racism and defense of the native people. In this culture they believe that Haile Selassie I Emperetor of Ethiopia is a god.

Economy of Jamaica:

The economy of the island depends on the tourism and only 14% of the zone is dedicated on the agriculture.
The people of the zone cultivate: coffee, chocolate, sugar cane and tobacco. But also the island has industries of chemical, run, petroquimic and suger.

Festivals of Jamaica:

Mo bay:

Every Monday night there is one of the most important street parties of the Caribbean, when Montego Bay is a host of Mo Bay Night Out.
Both visitors and residents give themselves an appointment in this carnival in Gloucester Avenue to amuse themselves to the pace of the bands of percussions, as well as of reggae and calipso.

Reggae sunsplash:

Also diverse annual celebrations are carried out as the Reggae Sunsplash, which is a musical festival of the world renown that is effected in Kingston, every year in summer, and that attracts more than 25 thousand people Celebration that extends the whole day and the whole night, for one week.

Day of the independence

Another picturesque appointment during August is the Day of the Independence of Jamaica. In this festivity, the singing, the dance and the artistic exhibitions and kitchen competitions, culminate in a parade of disguises and in a party that, in Kingston, lasts the whole night.
From there, the professional revelers are transported dancing towards Port Antonio to take part in the happy Jamboree of 10 days, which includes grills on the beach, cabarets and, certainly, during the whole night to the pace of local groups of soca and reggae.

Carnival:
In April, the carnival fever invades the island for nine days with parades, dances, contests of disguises.

Music:

In Jamaica different styles of music has been born and some very well known in the world.
Some of those styles of music are ska, reggae, rocksteady, dub, dancehall, and reggae and ragga jungle.
But the most well known are ska and reggae.

Ska:

Ska was born in Kingston, the capital of Jamaica. It is a style of music of the 1960s; this music was born of the fashion of the American black music like jazz and blues with the Caribbean popular music like the mento and the calypso.
Ska is a style that has been incorporated into different languages of music.
Ska is identificated with a particular identity, between street nostalgic and mysterious.
And the origin of the name ska has two hypotheses:
The first hypothesis says that Cluet Jonson, a of the components of the skatalites to say hello he said skavoovie and from this came the origin of the name ska.
On the other hand, the second hypothesis is that of the guitarist of the same band, said that the name ska was the form to describe the sound that the guitar did in this style.

This style in 1970 is mixture of punk and ska is become in a faster sound and contending but, keeping the style happy.

The ska has an ideology against the prejudicial racism.

Reggae:

The reggae is a kind of music of Jamaican origin.
The term reggae is derivation of reggae that is an abbreviation of ragamuffin. And this name was used for the poor people of Jamaica, the rastas and the cultural movements of the poor areas.
The reggae is based in a ritmic style characterized by regular cuts played by the ritmic drum.

The reggae is associated with the movement Rastafarian. This movement is influenced by reggae music.
In the first the reggae utilized only in the ceremonies Rasta but years after the reggae became in a form of musical expression in the ghettos of Jamaica.
So the subject of the music reggae was of style social, religious and political. Bob Marley was the most well know singer of the world of reggae.

Bob Marley:

The real name of bob Marley was Robert Nesta Marley; he was singer Jamaican and member of the Rastafarian movement. He is an important in Jamaica because he had did famous the reggae in the first a music of Jamaica, and because he was a very important profet of the movement Rastafarian.
He lived in Kingston where he met Bunny and other music and they made a group of music ehit the name “The Wailer”.
This group in the first It hasn’t success, but three years after they get success with the CD “Exodus” but they get a lot of success with the CD “Uprising” in 1980 with the song “Could be loved”. This year was the best for the band they have a lot of concert and fans.

After of the end the European tour, the walers travel in unities states of America when Bob died of a cancer caused for a hurt in the finger of the foot.
For End the exposition of Jamaica we went that you watch the video of Bob and we went tell a curiosity of Bob Marley. This curiosity is that the doctors found a 140 different species of Louse in his had.



This oral presentation was very funny for us, because the topic of Jamaica was happy with rastafariant people, Bob Marley and tipical parties. We worked reath hard for this oral presentation and I think that finally is a nice job and also I think that was the best oral presentation of our class.
